Medical-grade water systems for clinical diagnostics.
Overview
With over 50 years of experience in innovating water purification technologies, Elga® Labwater — a subsidiary of Veolia Water Technologies — has worked in partnership with major clinical diagnostics companies to design the unrivaled Medica™ range.
Whether you have access to tap or partially purified water or need to feed analyzers on a small or large scale, Medica ultrapure water systems allow you to get the high-performance water quality you need by eliminating impurities from water to extremely low levels while combining predictable, low consumable and running costs.
The Medica range is engineered to deliver from 7 liters per hour of Clinical Laboratory Reagent Water (CLRW), up to 200 liters per hour. The systems are designed with built-in wrap-around reservoirs that occupy a minimal amount of lab space. In addition, all units have a bypass loop which continues to provide compliant water to the analyzer in emergency situations.

Resources & Product range
To help you with your water purification challenges and best meet your clinical analyzer needs, the Medica range is available in several models and flow rates.
The range includes:
Medica™ 7/15
Supplies a constant flow of high-purity water which is maintained by recirculation through ion exchange resins, ultraviolet and an integral 0.2µm microfilter. It is an ideal choice for use with a single chemistry or immunoassay clinical analyzer.
Medica™ EDI 15/30
Ideal to supply CLRW-grade water to a single analyzer in areas of poor and or variable water quality.
Medica™ PRO EDI 60/120
Designed to supply CLRW-grade water to large or multiple clinical analyzers in areas of poor and or variable water quality.
Medica™ PRO-R & PRO-RE
Designed to supply CLRW-grade water to large or multiple clinical. Pro-R provides pressurized feed to single or multiple analyzers requiring consistent high-purity water while Pro-RE economically feeds single or multiple analyzers that are heavily utilized.
Medica™ PRO-LPS
Designed to supply CLRW-grade water to large or multiple clinical analyzers, this is the ideal choice when high-purity water is required from a pre-treated feed.
Medica™ R 200
Designed to supply CLRW-grade
water to large and high volume or multiple clinical analyzers on a loop. This system is easy to install, operate and sanitize, and can be customized to your requirements.
Medica™ Biox
Designed to treat biohazards, reduce organics and balance pH from the liquid waste of a clinical analyzer.

What is Clinical Laboratory Reagent Water (CLRW) grade water?
CLRW is a laboratory water quality standard used in clinical and diagnostic laboratory applications. CLRW-grade water meets specific purity requirements set by organizations like the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). It is treated to eliminate impurities that could interfere with laboratory testing procedures, ensuring accurate and reliable results. CLRW is often produced using water purification technology that include processes like distillation, deionization and filtration to achieve the necessary purity levels. The exact specifications for CLRW water may vary, but it generally involves minimizing the concentrations of ions, particles and organic contaminants.
Why is the use of water important in the clinical laboratory?
Undeniably, water is an essential and critical reagent in the clinical laboratory. Water quality below accepted standards affects test chemistry and overall analyzer operation, reducing the accuracy of the results, increasing calibration times and reagent costs.
What is the specification of Clinical Laboratory Reagent Water (CLRW)?
The specification for Clinical Laboratory Reagent Water (CLRW) is outlined by various organizations and standards, with the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) being a commonly referenced source. CLRW is designed to meet specific purity criteria to ensure its suitability for clinical and laboratory applications.
Case studies
Abbott Diagnostics South Asia — part of Abbott Laboratories, an American multinational medical device and healthcare company — has selected the Elga Labwater Medica™ range of high-flow water purification systems for use with its automated diagnostics. The Medica range provided a reliable and worry-free supply of clinical laboratory reagent water (CLRW) to the operation of many of their clinical analyzers.
NeoDIN Medical Institute in South Korea is a medical science laboratory which provides laboratory test services to clinics, hospitals and research centers nationwide. To address service and performance issues, the lab had to identify a new partner to meet the high performance and service standards required. NeoDIN relied on JM Corporation, Elga’s South Korean partner, to provide four units of Medica Pro 120 for the supply of Type I medical-grade ultrapure water to ensure no contamination in the process of their daily 7,000 and 8,000 samples.
